First Full Day In London

Hello to everyone that is checking up on our tour in London. My name is Dawson Ness and I am excited to have the opportunity to be included in this trip. I just finished my Junior year at Saint Scholastica pursuing a degree in a Social Sciences Secondary Education and Humanities double major with a minor in History.

Today was our group’s first full day together in London and it was quite a busy day at that. We left our quarters at the Hotel Jesmond to go on a bus tour around the city. In our coach, we were guided by our tour guide, Barry. He was an adorable, older gentleman that wore a matching suit-coat and trousers and a lilac fedora. He taught us not only about the different areas and landmarks in London, but about the culture and things that might be different in London than in America. There was a lot of information to cover on the tour, but Barry was well prepared because he had an official London tour guide blue badge which takes intensive training to receive. One of the most memorable stops on our tour was our walk along The Mall on our way to Buckingham Palace. Barry was able to tell us the names of many of the buildings along the way, the historical significance of the buildings, and what royal family member is currently in charge of said building. The picture I included in this post is of Barry showing our group one of those gorgeous royal homes because I thought it would be nice to document the wonderful experience we all had on our tour today. Barry’s prowess as a tour guide helped to break down London in such a way that it felt more manageable than yesterday as we arrived from the airport and were swept away by the size and chaos of the place. There was a lot of growth in my understanding of the way that the city works and I am sure there is more growth to be found in the days to come.

  1. It was such an exhausting but fun filled day! It was so fun going to the British museum with you a few days ago. There is so much more we can see when we go back!
