Sundayyyy

Hello everyone! It’s Katelynn agin, and our visit is coming to a close in a few days... I’ve had a fantastic time abroad so far and I’ve enjoyed every single minute of it! Today we did three different things. First we went to the museum of London, second we went to Tate Britain, and lastly we saw the musical Six at the Arts Theatre! (Personally I’m really looking forward to this musical)

Our first stop of the day was The Museum of London. This was a super cool museum that contained the entire history of London. There was a lot of interesting exhibits within it so it’s kind of hard to speak of all of them but here are a few events that I learned about a little more: The Jack the Ripper murders, The Black Plague, The great Fire, early London and how it was shaped and even medieval and Roman times in London. One thing that I found very cool between all these exhibits was all the skeletons that they have found (this was early London). My favorite was that there was a full skeleton of a female that they found! I found this cool because a few signs said that females weren’t often buried so it was really rare.

They also had a full horse skeleton!

We learned that the Black Plague killed between a third or over half of the population and they have no for sure idea how the disease was spread some believe it was a virus and some believe it was spread from flea bites or rats! (EWW). There was even more outbursts of this disease after 1350! I learned that the great fire of London through this museum started in 1666 at a bakery on Pudding Lane at 1am. The fire spread so fast because of how dirty and crowded London was at the time and destroyed four fifths of the City of London. This fire left thousands without homes! Below is a photo of the fire from the museum

Next we went to the museum Tate Britain. It was a beautiful museum full of lots of paintings and sculptures of famous artists. There was even an exhibit on Van Gogh! There was a painting with a plaque right outside this exhibit of where he love lived in London. He lived at 87 Hackford Road. (Sadly though, we did not get to see it because it was so expensive)

Although we did see three paintings by Francis Bacon called Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion.

We also ran into two portraits painted by Anthony Van Dyck. On of Mary Hill, Lady Killigrew in 1638 and one of Sir William Killigrew in 1638 as well. These were both Oil paintings on canvas.

Before the show a few of us went to a place called Nandos to eat before our show! We had some amazing food and took a little break before the show!

The musical Six at the Arts Theatre was amazing! I highly recommend it! I suggest checking it out on Spotify it’s super good and the actors did a fantastic job! Not only was this musical but it was also very funny to watch and good for learning.

Cheers,

I’m gonna miss blogging!

  1. Katelynn I am glad you have enjoyed your time abroad. It seems like you learned so much from the museums! I also learned that because of the great plague and the many deaths there are catacombs in London! It is actually a tourist attraction I saw it on buzzfeed unsolved! Jeje
