Bonjour de Paris

This weekend Rachael, Sophie and I traveled to Paris! It is one place that I really wanted to go to at some point in my life. We ended up flying out very early Saturday and managed to get to the airport just fine. When we arrived to St. Christopher’s hostel we put our stuff in our rooms and immediately went to the Eiffel Tower.

From there we decided to go to the Arc de Triomphe located only a mile away. Well… a mile felt like a marathon at this point. Our feet got to be very tired from all the walking we did. Below is a photo of the arch. It is significant because it honors those who fought and died in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Also in the photo is two French guards heavily suited and armed. I found this really surprising because there was many times where 5 police vehicles would drive by at a time and all of them contained 3-5 guards in them. The whole arch is as blocked off because of protests that were going on in other areas of the city.

Another place we stopped was Notre Dame. It is very common knowledge that it was recently damaged in a fire. The damage was extensive and saddening. The whole block around it was blocked off. This is probably because of what a fragile state it is in right now. It is very significant because of the many French coronations that have taken place there.

Finally, one of my favorite parts of the trip was seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkle after sunset.

  1. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed Paris so much! A little weird to think you were delayed by the protestors; at most, we had marathon runners keeping us from getting around Edinburgh (outside of my poor sense of direction). The Tower looks so cool at night!
