London England

Hello fellow bloggers!
My name is Rachel Anderson, I am a soon to be junior chemistry major at the College of St. Scholastica. For this trip, I will be taking part in the theater group, where we will be attending workshops, touring, and watching performances at several different theaters in and around London during our stay. I have no experience performing, unless elementary school plays count, so I am thrilled to see what all this program has to offer and learn as much as I can during my stay in this part of the world. Throughout high school and on, I have had the pleasure of seeing many different shows in Minnesota, New York and Las Vegas, so I am thrilled to see what the similarities and differences are between these two countries.

Now about the trip!
We started out yesterday afternoon, flying from Duluth to Minneapolis  (after a bit of a delay due to weather), then Minneapolis to London Heathrow. We arrived in London around noon, and checked into our hostel by 3 (London time). Next was dinner at a wonderful little pub down the street, with a fantastic fish and chips meal, served with pea puree.

After dinner, a group of three of us took a walk down to the London Eye. During this walk, I really became aware of the differences in pace and style between the bustling city of London, and the relaxed environment of Duluth, MN. Keep in mind also that cars drive on the left side of the road, which originally was a big adjustment, but we figured it out fairly quick. People also hurry through the streets, hardly ever waiting for the crosswalk to turn green but expertly dodging in and out of traffic to cross the street. Buses, taxis, bikes and mopeds fill the streets, with a plethora of walkers, runners, and joggers headed to or from work fill the sidewalks, making casual strollers a bit out of the norm.

Also a quick shout out to Jed, an Australian native who will be our guide throughout the trip.

I'll be checking in soon but until then, have an enjoyable time wherever you may be, and keep smiling the sunshine is good for your teeth!

  1. I agree with you in the differences between London and Minnesota!! They are so much farther advanced on so many aspects like fashion, food, business, and everything in between! I found that as we have been here we have gotten used to the traffic and are slowly becoming pros at London traffic!

  2. The pace in London is definitely faster than that of Minnesota. The city is constantly bustling with people, and there is always someplace to be. At first the fast pace was a little nerve wracking, especially since I kept walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk and getting in people's way. Ultimately, however, the energy of the city is contagious and we are definitely getting used to the difference in lifestyle.
