Vintage, so adorable.

Hello again! Today I had the whole morning free, as the literature class didn't have anything planned, so I got to sleep in and be lazy which was so great! In the afternoon I met up with Emily to go to the Portobello Market, which is this big open air market that sells mostly vintage things ranging from clothes to shoes to books to jewelry. I was like a little kid in a candy store--I LOVE other people's old stuff. When some of the vendors found out that we were Americans though, they warned us to be extra careful of pickpockets in that area. So if anyone is going to Portobello Market I would advise you to go with someone, because it was a little on the shady side, but it was still and awesome place!
After spending a good amount of time wandering around the market we decided to class it up a little and go to Oxford Street, which is where all the bigger chain stores like H&M and Topshop are. While trying to find the tube station we stumbled upon some amazing (and funny) street art, which was cool to see, because I haven't really seen any in London so far and I thought it would be more prominent seeing as to how it's such a large city.
After our shopping excursions we went back to drop our things at the hostel, and went to Russel Square to spend the rest of the afternoon reading and enjoying the weather. It was a pretty fabulous, low key day!

  1. That sounds awesome Ashley! I am happy to hear you got to have a nice low key day. For the portobello market, I almost feel like most of these street markets are a little shady. They are amazing and have really cool finds but still should be on high alert of the people you are by. I went to Camden market and it was almost the same way! Hope you ladies doing some great things!

  3. That sounds absolutely fantastic. I will have to add this to my to do list! I have a few gifts I would want to pick up from London and this market sounds perfect. It is good that you were told to watch your bag. While most areas in London seem relatively safe, busy areas tans those that are super touristy can be an issue. I always keep my purse in front of me and most of the time it is under my jacket. While this decreases the chance of getting stolen from, it can be a little of a hassle getting things out. Better safe then sorry though!

  4. We ventured over to the Portobello market today! Definitely not as sketchy as Camden markets. We didn't even make it through everything, as it started to rain. I also have enjoyed the opportunities for lazy mornings, and have used them to their full advantage. Rachel and I went to Covent Garden to shop, and we both greatly enjoyed that area. I would highly recommend it if you have some money to burn.

  5. Ashley, I can totally identify with the love for vintage and use things! Its so fun to find something unique. I enjoy knowing something has lived a life in a difference era and is now adding a sense of flare to my modern day life. I went to Portobello market today and thoroughly enjoyed my time there! Lots of things and lots of great deals! However, I totally spent too much money there. I couldn't resist taking advantage of the prices. Its cool you spotted some street art! I love the photos that you posted of it. I haven't seen much street art here and I never saw any when I was in Paris. I was beginning to think that Europe simply did have street artists. Very very cool you found some.
